Vanuatu Sets a Pacific Milestone: Introducing the First Disability Medical Registry in the Region
February 28, 2024
Port Vila, Vanuatu

In a groundbreaking move that sets a new benchmark for inclusivity and healthcare in the Pacific, Vanuatu has become the first country in the region to implement a comprehensive People with Disability Medical Disability Registry System. This historic achievement was made possible through a collaboration with Pacific Development, a company renowned for its commitment to fostering sustainable growth and equality across the Pacific islands.

Supported by the EU and French Development Agency (AFD), the introduction of the Medical Disability Registry marks a pivotal moment in Vanuatu's ongoing efforts to ensure that all citizens, regardless of disability, have equal access to healthcare and social services. The system will enable healthcare providers, policymakers, and social services to identify, understand, and meet the unique needs of people with disabilities more effectively.

The solution was built by a reputable offshore medical technology company Lattice Innovations. Pacific Development played a crucial role in bringing this visionary project to life that started less than 10 months ago by, helping drive the reform across government, providing the strategic guidance, project management, and technical expertise.

With Pacific Development’s presence in Vanuatu and across the Pacific, countries can be confident to find the best fit solution knowing there is a regional firm that will work in the best interest of every Pacific country. Sue Robinson, the managing partner in charge of the project, emphasizes the essence of Pacific Development’s approach: “Our focus on digital transformation projects is on accelerating the delivery of value. This area, inherently risky and often marked by project setbacks and delays, demands solid guidance and management."

As Vanuatu leads the way with this innovative approach, it hopes to inspire other Pacific nations to follow suit, fostering a region where inclusivity is not just aspired to but achieved.
